I got the nickname "cuttlefish" in second grade, and crooked legs were given to me since birth. In my photos, taken in childhood, I look like a pretty cute little fellow with white pigtails, funny bows and bowed legs. My classmates didn’t miss a chance to repeat: "Do you walk or roll around?".
Of course, my parents went to the doctors, but for some reason they told them that this problem would disappear with age. I don’t have a clue by what magic my legs should become straight, but there’s one thing I know for sure: nothing has gone away by itself but a lot of complexes appeared.

I have been taking psychological councelling for a long time and even started accepting myself bow-legged until my knees started to hurt. And it happened at the age of 24 - the age that, frankly speaking, is hard to be called the period of senescence. My crooked legs affected the state of my knee joints, not only the beauty and nervous system.
After that, an active search began. For a long time I have searched for information on how to straighten legs in case of varus deformity. I haven’t even tried disks and pads for knees as I didn’t find any scientific confirmation of their effectiveness. Why spend money and extra time?
But the operations were what interested me. They are carried out using the Ilizarov device - a huge thing that should be worn for about six months. Not just to be worn – before it is installed, an incision is made in your bone in order to help it knit in the correct position. For someone it may sound creepy, but I made my decision.
Since I am afraid of blood, I wondered is there a way to correct varus deformity with minimal blood loss. And Google helped me. It turned out that a unique technique has long been used in my home country, Ukraine. However, only in one clinic so far. So I decided to come there to receive treatment.
On the first day I came to get a consultation, and a tour of the clinic was held for me the same day. I was calmed down and told that everything can be corrected. The doctors explained again that over the years, nothing will change to the better for sure, but it can get even worse instead. Not only the joints but the entire musculoskeletal system will suffer.
The operation was scheduled in a day. Before the manipulation, I was questioned by the anesthetist. I spent about 40 minutes on the operating table. In the ward, I was already with the Ilizarov-Veklich device installed. Unlike the terrible pictures that I saw on the web, my “android” looked much smaller. I didn’t need huge baggy trousers to hide it. There was practically no blood - the cuts on the legs didn’t exceed 1 cm. This made me very happy: no one would notice the scars.
Then the most difficult period began – there was pain. But can the first day after the operation be pleasant? The pain was tolerable, and after a few days it disappeared completely. I was comforted by painkillers and the thought of new straight legs. Nothing can be compared with this for sure!
I have been wearing the device for 3 months, and I even got used to it. You can wear a skirt or put on pants without any problems. Of course, it is necessary to deny wearing leggings or a skimpy mini skirt for some time, but it's worth it!

The pieces of iron were removed from my legs in 5 minutes, it was unpleasant but not painful. Now I have straight beautiful legs and healthy joints. Only the barely visible 5 mm scars on the knees remind of the recent problem. And most importantly, the complexes from my childhood have gone away together with the bowed legs. Of course, I am not a psychologist, but the operation turned out to be a 100% victory over them. And the ones who defeated them are orthopedists from Kyiv working in Ladisten Clinic.
